Jessore Sloth Bear Sanctuary is situated in Banaskantha district, Gujarat, India, is the home of a unique kind of a bear known as sloth bear. These bears, unlike their counterparts who prefer to stay aloof and live alone, like to spend time in groups. The male of the species plays an important role in raising the offsprings. The top carnivore found in this region is the leopard. The sanctuary derives its name from the picturesque Jessore hills of Aravalli ranges cutting across the sanctuary. The area was declared as a wildlife sanctuary in May 1978.
